NY Times Obit Written by Dead Man

| | Share

As you likely know by now, the great comedian and actor, Bob Hope passed away this past Monday, July 28, 2003. What you may not know is that Vincent Canby, the renowned film critic who wrote the lead obituary printed in the New York Times today had died on October 15, 2000--nearly two years BEFORE Hope.

I guess they couldn't find anyone else who was familiar with Hope's work. Or, more likely they thought that the best obituary would be one written by someone who knew when Hope was going to die, and who better than someone who was already dead. :P

On the positive side, it's likely that everything Vincent Canby wrote for the New York Times was accurate.

Good grief!

I have to credit Jon Stewart on The Daily Show for informing me of this wonderful piece of not-so-fake news.
