Blizzard 2005

Category: My World

I've survived the dreaded Blizzard of 2005 this weekend. The Boston area had about 29 inches of snow complemented by 50+ mph gusts of wind and near zero temperatures creating -15 degree windchills. Just lovely.

The wind created snow drifts like the one shown in this picture of Pearl in the parking lot behind my apartment building:

I dug her out but didn't go anywhere because while the streets appear to be plowed (thanks to having a City councilman living on my block), nothing is open, plus I think it's illegal to park on the street or any of the City parking lots until the state of emergency is lifted by the Governor.

Most of the local city schools are closed on Monday...don't know if my office will be open, probably. I'll be happy to get out of the house.

Wow. We only had 3". I'm just glad it's cold enough to keep the skating rink in our back yard frozen. I like snow but as much as you had is a bit much even for my taste. We have a snow day here in Ohio too. Not sure why though. Keep warm!

I don't miss the white stuff, the digging out, the cabin fever at all!

You can have it!

Ah, yes...reminds me of all those years in Pittsburgh, and--more recently--the New Year's Eve Blizzard of 1999 in Detroit. Take care, Alan. We're thinking about you.

Oh boo, hoo. . . .
Although we only got 12 inches of snow - with this storm system - it quickly added to the 7 plus inches already on the ground. And we West Michiganders have been dealing with sub-zero temps and wind chills for over a week. In addition, as noted on ABC National News, the Grand and Kalamazoo Rivers have ice jams which are flooding many residential areas. But alas it is Michigan and overall, it is still a mild winter.

Love Ya,
Monique
